Fuchsia Fever

October 17, 2014

Isn't the thought of donning a bright fuchsia lip more terrifying than a red lipstick? Just me? I've always stayed well away from blue-toned pinks and opted for the safer options of mauves, rose-y hues and the MLBB (my-lips-but-better) shades. Cowardice, I know. Lately, I have been attempting to channel the,  I woke up like this minimal makeup look *scoffs*. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with slapping on a light base, a bit of-oh who am I kidding-  lashings of mascara, a sweep of blush and I'm good to go. But sometimes the urge to unleash my inner Scandinavian is too strong: Bare eyes and a strong lip? Oh yeah.

The Balm: If, like me,  the thought of wearing a Barbie pink lippy makes you pee your pants slightly, this one is for you. KORRES do a fantastic range of lip butters that, y'know, actually tint your lips. The KORRES Lip Butter in Quince is a HOT pink so no shying away here, and you wouldn't have to, because the blue undertones make your teeth look whiter than white. The only gripe I have with this is, I don't really fancy sticking my finger into the pot every time I need to reapply (you will need to reapply) when I'm on-the-go. I have heard that KORRES also do a twist-up version of this which may or may not make its way into my FeelUnique shopping basket...

The Matte: You know the saying, 'go bold, or go home'. Well, the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets bring it. Rather than leaving your lips feeling dry like most matte lipsticks-Russian Red, I'm looking at you- these leave your lips feeling almost... cushion-y.  Pink Pop (try saying that fast) is like the Queen Bey of fuchsia lipstick; it's most definitely not for the faint hearted.

The Gloss: I don't like bright, glossy lips, there's something slightly, 'hooker-ish' about it. But with a quick blot, reapply and the powder-over-tissue trick, the Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer-Apocaliptic can be transformed from a gloopy mess to a wearable, everyday bright.

The Do-It-All: I do love a good 2-in-1 product now and again and Revlon's lip department holds a special place in my heart. Although I own pretty much all (okay, I have a problem) of their 'chubby stick' lipsticks, I would have to say that the original Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains are by far my faves. A lipstick/balm/stain hybrid without the fuss of a 'grown up' lipstick.  Uhm, hello? I am so there.
